Sibley County Jail Mugshots Overview

Are Sibley County Mugshots Public?
Minnesota law is the starting point. Minn. Stat. Section 13.82, subdivision 26, defines a booking photograph as an image taken by law enforcement for identification in connection with an arrest. It says an adult booking photograph is generally public data, except that a law-enforcement agency may temporarily withhold access if release would adversely affect an active investigation.
Minn. Stat. Section 13.85 covers corrections and detention data. It helps explain why a public jail roster can show a photo, name, booking number, charges, and bond while withholding medical information, psychological information, financial data, unrelated personal data, or information that could endanger someone. Public photo status does not turn the full jail file into a public download.

Roster Photo Retention Limits
Sibley County did not publish a roster-photo retention period in the official sources located. The public roster is current-custody focused, so a photo that appears while a person is in jail may disappear when the person is released or transferred. That limit is important for older searches. The county manual says there is no fee to view data, copy fees must reflect actual costs, postage may be added for mailed copies, and payment may be required before copies are made or released. No separate mugshot-specific fee was found in official Sibley County sources.
Mugshot Removal and Expungement
Official Sibley County pages did not publish a mugshot-removal policy for cases that are dismissed, reduced, sealed, or expunged. Minnesota expungement grounds are addressed in Minn. Stat. Section 609A.02, which includes certain arrests, cases resolved in favor of the petitioner, diversion matters, stays, and other eligible outcomes. Expungement is handled through the court process, not through a commercial image-removal promise.
A court order may affect public access to records held by government agencies, but it should not be treated as automatic deletion of every copy found online.
